Are hammocks adjustable?

June 12th, 2011 4 comments

Hi, I’m thinking of buying a "free-standing hammock" for my son for his birthday. He wants to set it up between two trees nearby, but all the hammocks I see are all 13 feet long, and these trees are not exactly that size. Does anyone know if these hammocks are adjustable? (In other words, is there any way I can change the "length" of the hammock somehow?) He does not want the hammock stand. Any info. would be greatly apprecaited!! Thanks.

Can you critique my story?

While the two flirted, Andy explored more of the beach. Elisha was now yelling at Mark in front of hundreds of people. They were all pointing and laughing while Mark was clearly unaware of what was going on. On the other hand, Holly and Damien were making out in a secluded area over by the field of palm trees. He couldn’t help but feel a little depressed. He wished he had someone to at least hang out with. Someone who was a girl. He took another swig of his beer before staggering over to a hammock that was supported by two trees. He fell right into the net.
His eyes followed the pretty faces of bikini-clad girls. They were all giggling and telling jokes as they flounced off to the rest of their party. He sighed as he dropped the bottle of beer onto the ground. For some reason, he wasn’t having as fun as he was before. Ever since Thomas had brought up Palma, Andy had been in a funk. That was truly tactless of Thomas to bring her up. Especially when they were on vacation. At that moment, he wanted to kill Thomas.
Count to ten, Andy. He thought to himself. After ten seconds, things don’t seem to be such a big deal. One…two…three…four…five…six…seven…eight…nine…ten…
"Andy?" a soft, timid voice called from the distance.
"Palma?" he asked, looking around to see where the voice had come from.
Suddenly, the figure appeared from out of the shadows. But it wasn’t Palma. It was Savannah. She was standing in the middle of the beach in a white sundress. The reason why he could tell what color dress she was wearing was because the moonlight reflected her appearance.
"Yeah…?" he said lazily.
"Are you alright?" she asked, slowly approaching him. "I saw you leave, and I was just wondering if you were okay."
"Yeah, I’m fine." he said. "What about you? Why are you alone? Shouldn’t you be with the others?"
Savannah shrugged, walzting over to him. "I got bored. I don’t like to party, remember?"
"I know, but you shouldn’t be all by yourself. It’s boring."
"Why do you care? You’ve been ignoring me for weeks. Now all of a sudden you want to talk?"
Guilt surged through him. He had been ignoring Savannah. And for some reason, he couldn’t remember why. He couldn’t understand why he would even bother to shun his best friend.
"I’m sorry." he said sincerely, beckoning her to come closer. "I guess I’m an asshole."
She giggled. "I can’t say I don’t agree."
She sat down on the hammock next to him, kicking her white sandals off. The cool air breezed past them, plucking Savannah’s dark-hair up. Andy could feel her white dress tickling his leg.
"What do you wanna talk about?" he said, putting an arm around her.
"This so called ‘Spring Break.’" she said. "It sucks. I’m not having fun."
"This is only the first day." he stated. "Just give it some time."
"No one believes me when I tell them that Nicole’s a bitch." she muttered silently. "Not even you."
Andy didn’t hear her. "What was that?"
"Nothing," she said, her voice breaking. "I just wish Carter would talk to me. I miss him. He was my best friend. But what kind of friend takes his girlfriend’s side instead of his best friend."
"I have no idea." Andy said drunkedly.
He turned around to face her. Her beautiful face stared right back at him. Her face was so full of worry and caution. He wanted to let her know that everything would be alright. Suddenly, a Bob Marley song played in his head. He didn’t know the name of it, but it was about women losing their men in the war. He liked that song. It often made him happy but sad at the same time.
"Hey, Kitten?" he said quietly, putting his hand on her hand. "Everything’s gonna be alright."
She sighed. "Really?"
"Really?" he whispered, planting a small kiss on her forehead.
Savannah felt the kiss. Even though it was a small and quick peck, she couldn’t help but feel it linger on her forehead for a few more minutes. She couldn’t help but feel warm when being next to Andy. His body was so comfortable. When he hugged her, she felt like melting. No one gave hugs like Andy. They were always real and genuine.
She snuggled up against him, resting her head on his chest. He held her close and placed his hand on her leg. As if it had a mind of its own, it started massaging her leg. Savannah didn’t seem to mind. She just wanted someone to listen to her. She didn’t want to lose another friend.
"Do you like the stars?" Andy asked her quietly.
"Yes," she said. "I do. Especially when it’s a full-moon."
Andy nodded. The stars in the sky seemed brighter than usual. The blueness of the atmospher
"Yes," she said. "I do. Especially when it’s a full-moon."

Andy nodded. The stars in the sky seemed brighter than usual. The blueness of the atmosphere was starting to fade into black. So far, no one was paying attention to them. They were too busy getting drunk.

Andy ran his fingers through her hair and across her lips. Her lips parted slightly open just from the mere touch of him. He didn’t know what was happening, but she felt comfortable around him. He may have been a jerk to her in the past, but right now he was being gentle and careful with her. She didn’t want to leave him.
Then as if something had possessed him, Andy leaned over to place his lips onto hers. He moved them softly, massaging them up and down. Savannah wasn’t sure what was going on, but she liked it. His lips were soft and firm. She also observed that he was a very good kisser. Even better than Carter.

Andy soon got on top of her and wrapped his arms around her. Her whole body felt soft and delicate agaisnt him. He felt as if he were kissing a doll. Savannah let out a soft moan as he kissed her on the nape of her neck. But just when things were starting to get more intense, Savannah abruptly pulled away.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, putting a hand on her cheek.

"Everything," she said quickly. "I gotta go."

"Why?"

"Because I have to. Don’t bother following me."

And just like that, Savannah got up and walked away. Rather fast, too. As he watched her go, various things were running through his mind. Like how he had just kissed his best friend and best friend’s ex-girlfriend.

will two 4" diameter cherry trees support a double sized hammock?

December 26th, 2010 3 comments

I really don’t want to buy a hammock stand, and I found two trees in my backyard in a beautiful location that are 15 feet apart. however, the trees are thin in diameter (about 4 inches in diameter) and I was wondering if they will still support my future hammock?

Also, how high up should i drill the holes in the tree to put in the screws? I want the hammock up pretty high off of the ground, but not so high that i have to jump up to get in the hammock.

Thank you so much!

What would your perfect day be?

Mine would be to do this with someone someday:

First I will bring her a dozen roses, we will go to 6 flags and ride all the roller coasters together and I will tickle her constantly and tell her how beautiful she is. Then later on we will walk on the beach together feeling the cool sand on our feet, and I will then hold her in my arms and tell her how beautiful she is, then get on my knees and pull out a beautiful ring with a small butterfly with a diamond for the body, then she will say yes, and we will lay on the beach kissing for what seems like an eternity. then we will walk down lower on the beach fallowing a trail of flower petals I placed until it leads us to a secluded area by two trees with a hammock covered in pink rose petals, then we will lay there watching the sun set. Then she will lay her head on my chest feeling how my heart beats for her, how each breath I take, each thought I think, each moment of life I live to be her prince. Then I will fall asleep in her arms, and
spend an eternity in her loving presence showing her how each moment with her is like Heaven on Earth and the only tears she will ever cry are tears of joy…. forever and ever and ever :]
im not trying to get laid scrap…. I have turned sex down every time because I am waiting until I get married thank you very much :]

I wrote another one I would like to know: what do you think?

Her name brings up sweet memories
At the same time great sorrows
for a while the time was sweet
It stretched on like a hammock between two trees
As I thought about it my brow began to furrow
because I was in for a bittersweet treat

I am a coward
Who dwelling in the past
Failed to make something last
Instead of moving foward
I ended up blocking my own way
My heart and brain were conflicted
Unable to agree on what to say
So my access to her has been restricted
My love for her will never die
Unable to convey my feelings
I stand idle and lie
In pain and reeling
From a wound upon myself I did inflict
My mind is my own benedict.

This is only my second time writing poetry because I wanted to. I need your honest opinion Thanxs in advance

Also I wrote another one yesterday check my previous questions if you’d like.

If you are at the beach right now, what will you be doing?

Ahh, I’ll tie my hammock between two trees and enjoy the breeze!

What is the tension in the ropes at each end of the hammock(in pounds)?

A 170-pound man sits at the center of a hammock that is tied between two trees 14 feet apart. The hammock sags 2 feet at the center.

How can I keep ants off my hammock?

I have a hammock in my backyard attached to two trees…everytime you sit down ants crawl down from the tree onto the hammock…what can I do to keep them off?

What type of hammock would you recommend?

I’m looking for a two person hammock, probably able to hold 500 pounds. It will be used outdoors. I’m looking for something with minimal maintenance yet comfortable. I plan to tie it to two trees versus a hammock stand.
