where can i find a small hammock with a stand?

March 27th, 2012 1 comment

The dimensions I’m working with are 112" length x 25" width. (for frames that run the full length on the width). For frames that only have one support pole down the length in the middle, the standing base can be 32" wide. I’ve already looked at several websites and browsed around, so my question now is: where can I find what I’m looking for? I still need to be able to sleep in it! (length of place to sleep must be around 6 feet)

My budget is ideally <0, but a little over is okay. I’m not looking for links to sites that have hammocks, I’m looking for either a direct link to a hammock with dimensions that will work or a site which has one.

Should I replace my bed with a hammock?

August 18th, 2011 7 comments

I’ve read different opinions and my main concern is would I sleep better? Brazilian hammocks seem to be popular but is that only for naps and not daily sleeping habits? Thank you.

this is one of the sites I found which made it so intriguing. I would love to find someone that actually sleeps in a hammock overnight. The fabric kind of course, the rope is actually an English alteration.

HELP! I need your ideas! (transitioning almost 1 year old to crib)?

August 17th, 2011 3 comments

My daughter is 11 months old, and has slept in an amby bed up until this point. It’s a cozy hammock that hangs on a spring (from a metal stand). When she moves, it moves. And she can bounce herself back to sleep in the night. Problem is, she’s outgrowing the bed. She’s a sensitive little soul, who doesn’t sleep very well to begin with (she’s a terribly light sleeper and is easily woken in the night).
My son also slept in this bed, until he was about a year old. The good thing about him was that he would nurse to sleep. So I would nurse him, ease him into his crib and when he woke I would do the same thing again (until he got used to being in the bed). My daughter doesn’t nurse to sleep. It’s easy to put her to bed, in the amby. I hand her her blanket, say goodnight, turn her music on and leave. done. I tried putting her in her crib for nap today, and she acted like I was trying to kill her! (I expected no less, really). We’ve got some time before this is completely necessary. But I would like to start to try.

I need all the suggestions and advice you can give me :)
Thanks!!

Sleeping in a hammock as opposed to a bed?

July 2nd, 2011 4 comments

I am considering getting a hammock to replace my bed, and I was wondering a few things:
Would you recommend it? Why or why not?
What is the best model to get?
For the people out there: I am not going to get your standard white rope backyard model. I am going to get one to sleep in every night (if I get one). I heard that one fell asleep faster, slept better, and woke up feeling refreshed. Am I right?

My rat doesnt appear to be sleeping?

June 23rd, 2011 3 comments

I have 2 female rats (ive owned pet rats before). Anyway, ive had the girls for 3 months now so they are about 5 months old. One is called alyce and one is called sam. Sam is alot fatter than alyce and much more docile, alyce is smaller but more hyperactive. When alyce isnt hyperactive, shes fast asleep. I can open the cage door (which is quite noisy) and talk to them and she stays fast asleep. Not to mention her ability to fall asleep on me alot of the time. Anyway, in comparison, Sam seems to never sleep. The cage is on ground floor, and if the rats are up and i have a spare 10 minutes i will get them out and just walk around with them on my shoulder, but otherwise i leave them be except for in the evening where they come out for a few hours. Whenever i go past cage, Sam is wide awake, well 90% of the time she is. Even if i go down silently. Shes either lying in the hammock with alyce (asleep) with her eyes wide open, or she will be standing on her cargo net looking out of the cage. As this occurs during the day im quite confused and worried. Is she ok with this amount of sleep? A friend suggested it may be her ‘watching guard’ over Alyce? Any thoughts?

A cartoon was once published in which a man was shown going to sleep in a hammock suspended two relatively sma?

A cartoon was once published in which a man was shown going to sleep in a hammock suspended two relatively small trees. A second frame of the cartoon showed the man awakening 20 years later and finding his hammock 15 ft off the ground. Criticize this drawing in terms of what you know about plant growth.

Abnormal Rat Behavior?

May 3rd, 2011 5 comments

So, I’ve had these two rats for about two months. They’re mostly socialized, like we can play with them and whatnot without them pooping all over us. The problem is when they’re in their cage..they urinate usually only where the water bottle spout is located, and they also poo in the urine, making a lovely mess that I think they enjoy playing in while we sleep, because they usually smell like..well, pee. We’ve tried to litter train them using several methods, and nothing seems to be working, I swear to you, the other night I watched one of the rats lift the litter pan and DUMP it out, then throw the darn thing across the cage. Oh, and for the past couple of days, they have been taking craps in their hammock during the day when they have to poo while sleeping, I guess they’re too lazy to go down to the bottom of the cage and they don’t mind rolling in their own crap. This is ridiculous, I can’t bathe them every day, but I can’t stand the smell of them, either! I got rats ’cause I thought they’d be easy to potty train and from what I’ve read, they’re supposed to be fairly clean and not urinate where they drink and poop where they sleep. If it matters, they’re both boys, and they’re both about three months old, and we got them from a shoddy pet store where they were born.
This is more than territorial marking, I’ve seen them do that. This is full-blown bladder unloading.

Anyone used a Clark's Jungle Hammock before?

April 15th, 2011 3 comments

I love camping and am wondering about trying it with a hammock for a change. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on these. I do like to sleep on my stomach or side but I like the idea of a hammock. If I get one, I am not really interested in a cheap one. Any input?

Dog wets his bedding?

February 28th, 2011 2 comments

I crate my dog at night and when I’m at work – I’ve been doing this for the 2+ years I’ve had him. He’s a mini dachshund, and the crate I have for him is 24”Lx18”Wx20”H. I don’t check it every day, but once a week I have to wash it because there is a noticeable urine smell. It might be that the crate is too big for him, but I hate shutting him up in smaller crates. He doesn’t like it either. He’ll go into the one we have on his own and sleep there without me shutting him in, but whenever we’re on the road and I switch him to his travel crate (still big enough for him to stand and turn around in, but it is a lot smaller) he whines and won’t go in on his own.

So I would prefer not switching to a smaller crate because I don’t think he’s comfortable in one. However, I really am getting sick of him relieving himself on his bedding. If I put him in without a blanket or something soft, he never pees. It’s like he thinks he’s supposed to pee on old blankets and towels? Or maybe it just "soaks" up the pee and he doesn’t notice it like he would if he just peed on the plastic floor.

I was wondering if I did not put a blanket down on the floor of his crate and put a sort of hammock in his cage for him to sleep in…..do you think that would solve the urinating on his bed problem? I made a makeshift one earlier today and he seemed comfortable in it, I just wanted ot see if anyone else had this problem and if you think this could be a solution?

Also, he used to sleep in bed with me before I got married and he never ever peed then, so I don’t feel like it’s a timing problem, like I don’t let him out in time?

Any ideas?

What kind of bed is this?

February 12th, 2011 2 comments

First of all. It is not a bed per say. I remember it from my childhood but I don’t remember what it is called. The bed is sort of like a hammock. The part where you lay down is similar but it does not swing like a hammock. The bed/hammock I remember was much lower to the ground and was held up by four small poles on each of the corners so that it would not swing. There was no mattress and like a hammock it was more like a couch length sized piece of cloth tightly attached to the four poles and the sides. I remember that it was also portable as you could fold it in half and take it wherever you wanted to sleep. And like I said the bed/hammock had the length of a normal sofa/couch. I tried being as specific as possible but that is all I know. Thank you for taking the time to reading this and I hope that the answer is obvious to you because I don’t know it haha. I hope I get the right answer because it’s really killing me that I don’t remember what this darn thing is called!

PARAKEET HURT BY CAT: Can their crops heal?

February 3rd, 2011 5 comments

WE CAN’T AFFORD A VET SO JUST HELP PLEASE, don’t tell me to go to a vet

Our parakeet was attacked by a cat but I intercepted it right when it happened, still there was a puncture wound in its upper chest but it was still flying around and running around and chirping afterwards, acting very normally but still with an open wound, though not bleeding there were seeds gushing out of it, it could still stand on its perch and chirp

my brother then tried to wash the wound because cats carry deadly bacteria and we used a cleaning pad from a first aid kit and some eyedrops on the wound but that made it watery and seemed to reveal a longer scratch and it forced more seeds and stuff to ooze out of the wound

we tried to get some gause pad on his chest but we absolutely could not get any to stay to his chest while having his wings and feet still functioning, eventually we put the pad over his chest but were forced to cover his wings so he cannot fly. now i have him lying in a bandana hammock in his cage and a blanket over the cage so he will hopefully sleep because its so sick and horribly sad that he has to go through this…

after examining the anatomy of a parakeet i’m positive that he was cut in his Crop where they store undigested food before being sent to the gizzard. so my question is: Will his crop ever heal? will he ever be able to eat normally? or will he just die within the next day or so? is there any way to help him from this point without going to a vet? i want to take off the gauze so he can move but i’m scared to
11:13pm : we got the gauze bandage off him and put neosporin over his crop and he is walking around fine like he was earlier in his cage. i dont think the hole is too big because he actually went to eat some seeds after we put him in the cage and even drank some water without spilling any out of his throat (crop).

so my brother is now watching him and if he continues to be able to eat with just neosporin covering his wound then were going to keep that up, because we didnt want him to die as an immobilized mummy wrapped in gauze tape. right now, assuming it can heal, it looks like he might make it. hes gonna go to sleep on his perch tonight with the other bird and well see if he makes it through the night but at least he isn’t all wrapped up lying helplessly.

but like i said he successfully ate a few seeds and drank a sip of water without leaking it out so i hope he can fully recover
thanks for the link also, i don’t have the supplies to stitch and i hope to avoid that but if hes leaking tomorrow we’ll have to look into that
He was still alive and going to sleep on his perch at midnight last night, but this morning he has passed away..

". You never should have gotten the bird because you cant look after. "

we didn’t even buy the bird, some girl who was leaving to mexico just left 2 parakeets at our house. i wish we could have gone to the vet but it would have been like 200 dollars which we just dont have..

at least he died in his sleep..

Can you sleep on your side in hammock? Also, where do you put your pack and boots?

January 15th, 2011 2 comments

I’m in the market for a tent for back country hiking and I came across the Hennessy Hammocks. I sleep on my side and sometimes roll around a lot. Have you ever slept on your side in one of these?
Where do you store your pack and boots when sleeping?

Is it wrong? (Q for girls)?

January 7th, 2011 16 comments

Is it wrong if I want to just sit on the seawalls and hold you tight as we look at the sunset? Is it wrong for you to spend the night over at my place with something to eat and a few good movies? Is it wrong if I spread a towel on the beach and we lay and look at the stars, just the two of us. Is it wrong if I want to marry you and have a little boy of our own? Is it wrong if I sway him to sleep in the hammock on the balcony at nights and tell him that the brightest star in the sky is mommy? Is it wrong if I spoil him alittle and take him out for ice-cream and tell him to give mommy a big kiss and he’d run to her and put his little hands on her cheeks? Is it wrong if I call you my princess and my little teddy? Is it wrong to leave little "i love you" notes next to your pillow everyday? Why is this such a crime? Where am I going wrong? Is it just me? Is it wrong?

a few questions about my three female rats?

November 26th, 2010 5 comments

They are all very tame and we have had them for two weeks now.

1.While in our bedroom we can hear the rats squeak loudly. We always think there is something wrong but when we go to look at their cage they all stand up staring at us like they normally do and nothing appears to be wrong. They isn’t any fighting noise either. They all sleep together at night. Could it be attention seeking? any ideas?

2.Why do my rats smell so bad. They have a hammock. We clean the cage every week and have now put some safe powder down which is supposed to make the urine smell less bad. However the smell is still there. It’s a sweet kind of smell. It still smells no matter how often we clean the cage. Any safe ways to get rid of the smell?. Outside of the cage, the rats themselves don’t seem to smell.

How to Hang a Hammock Indoors?

October 2nd, 2010 2 comments

I want to hang a hammock in my bedroom to sleep in. I am worried however about the wall studs holding the weight, especially if there are 2 of us. Any ideas on how to secure the attachments in such a way to avoid any damage? I could just see a stud snapping in
