Should I replace my bed with a hammock?

August 18th, 2011 7 comments

I’ve read different opinions and my main concern is would I sleep better? Brazilian hammocks seem to be popular but is that only for naps and not daily sleeping habits? Thank you.

this is one of the sites I found which made it so intriguing. I would love to find someone that actually sleeps in a hammock overnight. The fabric kind of course, the rope is actually an English alteration.

Sleeping in a hammock as opposed to a bed?

July 2nd, 2011 4 comments

I am considering getting a hammock to replace my bed, and I was wondering a few things:
Would you recommend it? Why or why not?
What is the best model to get?
For the people out there: I am not going to get your standard white rope backyard model. I am going to get one to sleep in every night (if I get one). I heard that one fell asleep faster, slept better, and woke up feeling refreshed. Am I right?

Will PVC hold the weight?

June 2nd, 2011 5 comments

I’m trying to make a hammock stand that’s light and portable…I came up with one idea and searched around a bit and found a couple made out of wood and what appears to be steel pipe
both sound heavy.

I was wondering if PVC would hold around 300-400lbs (2 people, a lot closer to 300lbs..but just in case)

here is a very intricate diagram I drew up so you could have an idea of what I’m trying to do
http://i54.tinypic.com/66hrns.png

or you could look at this, it’s almost exactly what I want to make, but with PVC
http://www.amazon.com/Byer-Maine-A4030-Madera-Hammock/dp/B00092M278/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1306297489&sr=1-5

I’m looking to either use a 45 degree elbow(if they make those) or maybe drill a hole through the tops to put a bolt through so it’s like a pivot

I just want to know if this design would hold the weight of 2 people or not, and if so..what sive PVC should I use and whatnot

I’m pretty sure wood or galvanized steel would work, but I don’t want to have to carry that much weight backpacking and such

Thanks for you help
Not talking about backpacking miles and miles…just enough to get away from people :P

I might look into aluminum…it would be about 12′ total that I’d be carrying though..might get a bit heavy.

also, I plan on using trees when available, but I also like looking at the stars at night, which isn’t possible with trees, so I might set up away from trees every now and then.
That’s a rope, pulling the top of the A frame thing outwards and staked into the ground, then the hammock pulls against it.

I’ve kinda shifted to four 1.5-2" wood dowels, probably oak or maple since I doubt ash will be at home depot and stake them out with at least a couple guy lines on each side

seems like it should be plenty strong to hold 2 people

I need to find a dog proof hammock?

December 15th, 2010 3 comments

On my family’s patio is the hammock that has a stand. My mom and dad like to go out there every so often and lay in it and relax, pretty much a cat nap. The dog my sister got for her birthday is quite a wild one. He has sat in it, while rocking himself in it. The hammock smelling like dog is not the problem. he has, unfortunately, chewed up some of the rope that supports the hammock, thus rendering it unusable. Is there a hammock that repels dogs or something like that. Maybe one that is tough enough to prevent any possible danger from the rope snapping. please help. i want to get them a hammock for christmas. I am just worried that it could also get chewed up. I know we could simply keep the dog out of the patio, but what if we have to keep the dog’s bed outside (covered by blankets) like we did for thanksgiving? he would have access to it and who knows what would happen. Also a mistake of leaving the patio door open could happen.
thanks ahead of time

I’ve seen some people using them, they have like rope connected to the ends and you wrap them around a tree or something and it holds you up by like friction. What are those? Who sells them?

We were at the movies and decided to go to the island in the area and we were hanging out on the Hammock. I started kissing his neck and I heard him gripping the rope on the Hammock and making slight moans. His eyes were also closed and he looked like he was enjoying it, alottt.

Ugh Helpp ?
Did it just mean he enjoyed it a lot or it meant something else?

a beach themed bedroom?

February 13th, 2010 2 comments

i love the beach so i was thinking i could decorate my room kinda like one, since I’m already getting 3 walls replaced(out of 6 )(oddly shaped room,i know) so i was thinking light blue walls but one of the walls is sticking out i little because in the next room there’s a fireplace,so for that wall i was thinking like a beach scene,a little sandy paint on the bottom with beautiful ocean stretching out over the horizon and there would be a silhouette of a palm tree…get a yellow rug for the center of the wooden floor , hang paper lanterns, sea shells around the room , (and if i can find a cheap one, for a room,a lifeguard chair :) ) I’ll hang posters and a wooden tiki head i have oh and while i was bored i made a hammock :) its made outta sheets, but i didn’t have rope :) What do you think of this bedroom idea/
anything to add to it??

brookstone rope hammock too low to ground?

January 20th, 2010 1 comment

hey, i just got a hammock today from brookstone. I hung the hammock on the steel stand, like the directions said and i sat in it only to hit the ground… the directions said this is normal and that i had to keep on doing this until i was at a comfortable height. the only problem with this is that my hammock is now as tight as it can go on my stand and i am not that heavy and when i lay in it i am only a few inches from the ground, this is clearly not right, and rope hammocks stretch out rapidly, so… you see the problem here, … what to do?

What is the best kind of hammock stand/hammock to buy. Somewhat affordable.?

November 6th, 2009 1 comment

I have a small concrete fenced in back yard area and want to set up a hammock. Anyone know of some hammock stands that take up minimal space, or does anyone have an opinion of what hammock is most comfortable. Rope, Quilted, Parachute, etc…
Thanks

My hammock broke where the rope harass holds the canvas "mat" to the spreader bars and metal loop that is on the stand. The canvas in in great condition, it is the rope harass that is degrading apart.
