Most colorful/interesting hotel experience?

August 29th, 2011 1 comment

What was the most colorful, unusual, or otherwise interesting hotel you’ve stayed at?

For myself, I have 2 candidates: I once stayed in a Mexican hotel that was in a run-down 250-year old Spanish mansion with marble staircases, full of old oil paintings and crumbling antique furniture. It cost .50 a night, the sheets had holes in them and the mattress appeared to be 60 years old. The owner was an ancient, good natured Spanish-looking gentlemen.
The other was a hippie-run place built on a cliff overlooking a beach, the walls were painted with crazy hippie drawings and you slept in open-air hammocks.

What kind of bed is this?

First of all. It is not a bed per say. I remember it from my childhood but I don’t remember what it is called. The bed is sort of like a hammock. The part where you lay down is similar but it does not swing like a hammock. The bed/hammock I remember was much lower to the ground and was held up by four small poles on each of the corners so that it would not swing. There was no mattress and like a hammock it was more like a couch length sized piece of cloth tightly attached to the four poles and the sides. I remember that it was also portable as you could fold it in half and take it wherever you wanted to sleep. And like I said the bed/hammock had the length of a normal sofa/couch. I tried being as specific as possible but that is all I know. Thank you for taking the time to reading this and I hope that the answer is obvious to you because I don’t know it haha. I hope I get the right answer because it’s really killing me that I don’t remember what this darn thing is called!

What does a hammock do when one falls into it?

April 6th, 2010 2 comments

What is that sound that a hammock makes? Is it slackening? Is it snapping tight? When you climb into a hammock and just let your body fall into it. Kind of like when you fall onto a mattress, your body goes limp and slaps the sheets, or whatever?

Looking for a good word or a few good words for a simile. Help out, please. And thank you, in advance. :)

I have to still keep my bed in my room, prop the mattress and base up against a wall. Tips on how to decorate over it, to hide it?

Does anyone know what size mattress fits in an Amby Baby Hammock?

March 17th, 2010 2 comments

Have been loaned a baby hammock, but need to get a new mattress for it. Not sure what dimensions will fit and was hoping that I could buy one somewhere cheaper than the Amby website!! Does anyone have one they could measure for me? Many thanks

How and when can we best transition our baby from an Amby Baby Hammock to a crib?

October 26th, 2009 3 comments

We have an almost 5 month old who has slept in an Amby Baby Hammock since the day he was born. He sleeps very well. We tried two nights in the crib a couple of weeks ago, and it just didn’t go so well. The Amby keeps him all snuggly and moves with a rocking motion when he moves… and the crib is just a crib, of course (although it has a very nice mattress). Any suggestions from experienced Amby users?
