Can a window unit air conditioner be used in a room without windows?

Can you just sit the unit on a chair or something, or does it need the outside air to cirrculate? I need to use it in a room with no windows.

Any thoughts?

no it needs a window to go into.it needs to take the hot air out and blow the cool air in.you cannot use it the way you are planning too.

No! Window units leak water to the outside.

if you do use it ,the hot air generated by the unit will be more than the cool air. before long your room will be warmer than when you started

You could cut an opening in the wall of your room and stick the AC in that opening instead of a window. That would likely be an expensive option, however. There are ACs that have a small vent pipe that you must route outside your house. These units are portable and just sit on the floor. They cost approx. $ 400.
