Which camping hammock brand do you recommend for motorcycle travel?
I want to buy my boyfriend a camping hammock for his birthday. A little backround: he wants something that’s really compact because he wants to go on a roadtrip on his motorcycle. He was looking at the Clark Jungle Hammocks, which do seem the best. That is a little pricey for me though, so I was wondering about Hennesey hammocks. He wants something warm, easy, and light. Which brands should I look at?
I use an Eagle’s Nest for backcountry in Florida. The only thing to not like is that in very warm weather the nylon hammock acts as a windbreaker and no cooling breezes get through. But when I use my cool cotton mesh hammock, I complain that it is heavy and bulky, that I have to carry an extra blanket, etc. I would recommend it. http://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/
With all outdoor gear, the key factor is always quality and reliability. Stick with well-established companies. As a former Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker, I suggest you try REI or EMS online stores to have a look. Probably just http://www.rei.com and http://www.ems.com. There’s nothing worse than having outdoor equipment fail at the worst possible time, causing much discomfort, even injury. Stick with quality products; alas, with quality comes cost. This is one area where saving money is secondary to insuring your boyfriend’s safety and comfort.
I own a Hennessey hammock and I think they’re great. They have fewer frills on them, but they keep you comfortable and dry when you need them. If warmth is an issue, regardless of which hammock he gets I would recommend packing a closed-cell foam pad. They’re a little bulky, but they’re durable and light. I go winter camping with my hammock and I put the foam pad inside to sleep on it. That gives a ton of insulation. If he’s camping in warmer weather, a normal sleeping bag is all he’ll need.
I’m a side/stomach sleeper and Hennessey hammocks are the most comfortable for me. Because of their design you lie much flatter than you do in other hammocks. Also, if you order from them direct, their customer service is excellent in my experience.
I own and swear by Hennessy Hammocks…they are probably one of the most comfortable and light weight hammocks around.
No hammock can be considered warm by itself….and breeze or cool air is going to suck the heat right out from underneath you. But as far as rain and mosquitoe protection goes it doesnt get any better than hennessy hammocks
