Steel Hammock Stand – Protection from rust?

Just got a new steel hammock stand which I know will hold up pretty good, but I live in Hawaii. Is there something more I can do to protect it from rusting?

    use some clear rustoleum spraypaint. will protect it from rust and other elements. execpt lava.
