My son who bedwets wants to sleep out in the yard in the hammock so he won't need diapers. Should I let him?

My 10 year old still wets his bed (hopefully it’ll clear up soon, that’s what the doctor says. It’s just the way his body is growing.) He wears diapers to bed so he doesn’t have to wake up in wet sheets. Now that the weather is warmer, he wants to sleep out in the hammock in the yard so he won’t need diapers. If he has an accident, it’ll just go in the grass. Do you think I should let him?

yeah he will be fine, I doubt he will get a good nights sleep outside anyway with critters walking around so he will probably have a sleepless night

No. Of course not. I don’t care how safe you "think" where you live is… leaving a 10 year old overnight outside is dangerous!

The hammock will still be soaked with pee, and is he going to sleep naked? Because his jammies will be pee-soaked, too. And getting peed on night after night might kill your grass.

It may be fun for the family to "camp out" in the yard every once in a while, but you can’t just let him sleep outside like a dog!

I think that would be fine.. as long as your yard is fenced in depending on the area in which you live and if you have a safe neighborhood. But i wouldn’t let him do it all the time, its most likely uncomfortable and he wont get good sleep. also i would look more into the bed wetting, it could be a psychological problem. google bed wetting.

I say yes. It’s probably humiliating for him to wear diapers at his age. I don’t know what else you have tried, but does he drink soda? Soda makes people go to the bathroom more. I would have him cut out soda and limit evening drinks to one glass of milk or water before dinner.

If the weather is nice and you live in a safe area I see no problem with letting him sleep in the hammock if it makes him feel better about the bedwetting problem. Maybe you could use sleeping outside as a priviledge he needs to earn by helping with chores and cooperating during the day.

I dont think you should let him sleep outside. It seems like he just feels bad about the bed wetting and thinks that this is going to make it better and him feel better for not wearing a diaper. Poor guy. My son wet the bed forever it seemed but made it through. Good luck to you and the little man, it will pass.

You’d have a soaked smelly hammock and a nice patch of dead grass but I guess you could do that if it makes him feel more comfortable.

I wouldn’t for a lot of the previous poster’s reasons. I would let him sleep in the tub before I ever let him sleep outside.

And I’m going to give some obvious and sometimes overlooked advice.
Does he drink before bed? Does he make sure to go to the bathroom right before?

Bed wetting is caused usually by a small bladder and is not an emotional problem. Let him sleep outside so he can get to know the wild animals and insects.

i would say no. its really dangerous to let kids sleep out side with out an adult out there….now if an adult does sleep out there then its probably ok….its just that hes gonna have pee on him when he wakes up.(you should try pull ups…kids feel more like they’re wearing underwear when they wear them)

yes…that way you get your lawn watered, and it doesnt cost u a thing..make sure u put him in different spots, that way he can water the whole lawn.i hope you hose down the hammock, before someone else lays in it..if you put him over some weeds, it should kill them out . want to rent him out?

It still gets very cold at night even in warm weather, i live in las vegas and in august we’ll have a 100 degree weather and a below 70 degree night.

The hammock would just smell like pee. What does he plan on doing? sleeping out there naked?

I used to wet the bed for the longest time, make sure he doesnt ave anything to drink for 3 hours before he goes to bed and that he goes pee before he goes to bed.
