just find the wall studs. and use quality lag bolts and that should do the trick.
You can also buy a stud finder a lowes.
it depends on the college. At my school it was a big no. No one I knew at different colleges could put anything up in their dorm room, not even those would have suites which were basically apartments
It will depend strongly on the size of the room and the rules of the dormitory.
I would not suggest using a hammock you have to attach to the walls. Most colleges view this as a BIG NO. However a freestanding hammock will give you what your looking for without angering the school.
The college that I went to and many that I have visited all had concrete walls (while you could drill a hole into the cement you would have had a MAJOR fine, and would have been made to take it down anyways.) In my dorm room we made lofts (like a bunk bed with out the bottom bunk). You could put your matress on top and put the hammock underneath. Just make sure your frame is sturdy. You’ll save room, and be the envy of your floor, lol.
