I'm looking to redecorate my room. Any suggestions?

I’m 16 years old and on an extremely low budget. I want my room to have a multi cultural, global, eclectic feel to it. I want to paint the walls a deep red. What I have to work with:
Plain white, wall to wall carpet
A plain white bookcase I would like to repaint
A shabby brown dresser I would like to repaint
One window
A closet, (The kind that folds open, not with a twisty knob)
A bed (no headboard, straight on the floor)
A plain white desk that I would like to repaint.
A colorful hammock from Ecuador ( but no hammock stand)

Any suggestions, guides, reference pics, etc are helpful. Thanks!

Yes paint all your furniture white or off white to contrast against the deep red walls. You can add cultural references with various wall art paintings, photos and/or sculptures .. and make the most of your colourful Ecuadorian hammock; if it is unusable tastefully drape it from the wall or around a larger piece of furniture, or better still use it as a hammock! If the hammock is in perfect condition, hang it properly from your bedroom walls and or ceiling – maybe directly above your bed, if your bed is on the floor – Hammocks make great beds too and look great! A hammock fixing set like this one should do the trick:

You should repaint all your furniture white (even repaint the ones that are already white) and with the red walls it would look good.
