How can I tell if it's too hot or too cold for my rats?

It’s 80 degrees in my room right now. The windows are open so there’s a slight breeze, but it’s not helping any. I’m so hot I feel like I could pass out, so I know these rats must be really hot as well. I put a dish of ice water in their cage to help them cool down, but I don’t know how much that’ll help since they seem to be completely avoiding it. I’m more worried about the 16 babies though since they’re all in a pile in a hammock… I don’t know how they could stand to sleep like that in this heat.
The only room that’s slightly cooler than mine is the bathroom, and their cage doesn’t fit in there. And Petco is 2 hours away…
I put them in my garage with a fan. They have some frozen cranberries and bananas… they seem happy x]

I’d definitely be using a fan for them if you have one! Perhaps give them some chilled food/vegetables?

Well if it gets too hot, they’ll die… If it gets too cold, they’ll die.

Rats are pretty good about temps, but still more sensitive compared to humns. Try moving them to another part of the house that is cooler, maybe a basement if you have one. or if u have a fan, dont blow it on the cage, but near the cage, so tey get a very slight breeze. Good luck :)

Your right about the babies, but I dunno how they react to weather conditions, but they’ll prob be fine :/

Also try freezing like a plate or something and putting it in the cage with them

Sorry hun, but a fan isn’t going to do anything except blow hot air on them. Rats don’t sweat, so fans don’t do much if anything at all.

Try freezing a bottle of water and wrapping it cloth. It will give them something cool to cuddle up to. The frozen cranberries and bananas was a great idea! The frozen plate idea was good too.

Can you get an AC in your room soon? That would be best for them. Garages can have harmful fumes.
