How can I keep heavy people off my hammock?
I’m going camping with my family and another family this weekend, and I have a new tree hammock that only holds 200 pounds.
The other family members are all quite heavy – well over 200 pounds each. What is the proper way to make sure they know my hammock will not hold them?

They know they are heavy. Just tell everybody "this hammock is lightweight, rated only up to 200 pounds. Please don’t put two people in it and don’t anyone use it if you’re over the safe weight limit."
You’re not insulting them, you’re warning them as a safety consideration.
Put a big sign on it that says 200lb limit.
Tie it really good, to a few large trees.
Tie it up really high so that only small nimble people can climb up into it. If it’s up high, the "heavy" people won’t be able to climb into it and would be worried about falling out of it.
BTW – I had a similar camping experience with a friend who busted my air mattress by doing a belly flop on it.

I would probably not take it, but if you insist…Place it where it is really low to the ground- therefore it will give when they try and sit and they will hit the ground before it is ever stretched…Most will see that it is low, and opt out in the beginning…So, they don’t fall…
Don’t bring it, or make a sign that says no touchy touchy.
ok, well you could take the approach where it sounds like you’re thinking to yourself. I know it’s not a polite situation and this isn’t really a polite solution, but it’s an alternative to simply announcing it. While setting up or around the campfire, be checking to make sure it’s secure and sort of mutter out loud, "Wonder how much this will hold" and go and check the box, when you will say, "Wow, this only holds 200 pounds, that’s interesting". I know it’s not polite but if you don’t feel comfortable confronting, which it sounds like, this is an alternative. Good luck with this and Happy Camping!
Keep all the snacks on the other side of the camp away from your hammock. That way the heavier people won’t be near the hammock; they’ll be with the snacks.
Either you tell your girl friend, or have your mom tell the other Mrs. that you would like to take your hammock along but it will only be for your enjoyment and ask if they have something equally pleasurable to bring along so all could have fun at the same or different times. If not, then leave it at home. If they are your friends, you should not want to exclude them. If they are family that you don’t enjoy, ask your parents not to invite them again. However, if the other family are all adults and you are not, then have your mom tell them the hammock is off limits, etc.
I hope your family sees this. I suggest you just tell them like your telling us that they are to fat for it and you were to cheap to buy a better one.
how about making it a "for kids only" hammock?
just say it can only hold up to 200 pounds so no more than one person or people over said limit.
